UPDATE, 3:30 p.m. — The detectives investigating the Chase Bank robbery on Route 59 Monday morning have placed a person of interest in custody. Clarkstown police did not announce the person's name.

The collar came after detectives were able to gather invaluable information at the scene, said public information Officer Norman Peters. "This was all able to take place within four hours from when the robbery initially occurred to when the individual was placed in custody at 1:45 PM. A picture of the robbery suspect was retrieved from the bank's surveillance system."

Detectives began reviewing surveillance video and interviewing employees of the Chase Bank on Route 59 after a robbery was reported at 10:40 a.m., police said. The initial reports stated that a man wearing a black knit cap, black jacket and blue jeans entered the bank and passed a note to the teller.
