Route 59 Fuel Spill Slows Traffic

The spill was across from the McDonald's in Spring Valley

Route 59 experienced a little more traffic than usual around noon time, Tuesday March 1, when a driver of a tractor trailer went over a snow bank, hit a block of ice and ruptured his fuel tank. The fuel spill was across from the McDonald's in Spring Valley between Pascack Road and Main Street Spring Valley.

"About 5-10 gallons of fuel is on the road," said Spring Valley Fire Chief Ken Sohlman. They used Speedy Dry, an absorbent, to cover up the fuel spill as the Rockland County Hazmat team came.

"We brought them (the hazmat team) out to pump existing fuel out of the tank. They'll be here a couple hours," said Sohlman.
