Latest 'Avengers' Film Posts Second-Biggest Opening Day Gross

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Marvel and Disney appear to have another historic hit on their hands with "Avengers: Infinity War." The latest installment of the superhero franchise posted the second- biggest opening-day box office gross in North American history, according to estimates out Saturday from the industry tracking group comScore.
"Avengers: Infinity War" -- which opened Friday -- took in $106 million on its opening day, which puts it second only to 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which grossed more than $119 million on its opening day in theaters in the United States and Canada.
This weekend's full box office estimate is due on Sunday.
