Saturday: 2nd Annual Nanuet VAASA Walk
The walk is at the Nanuet Outdoor Education Center and the RSVP deadline is today, Friday. Contact mbogdanowich@nanuetsd.org to participate

Fingers are crossed that Hurricane Sandy will not interfere with this weekend's Second Annual Nanuet VAASA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse) 'Walking Away From Substance Abuse'.
"The Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse is facilitating a Walk-A-Thon on October 27," said Nanuet HS Student Andrew Weiss, a member of VAASA. "While walking, the participants will be educated on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs through posted signs created by the students in the organization. Sports and fitness are an important part of every person’s life because it leads to a healthier lifestyle. Physical activity can help keep individuals from making destructive decisions. Exercise occupies one’s time and gives the individual an excuse to not fall into peer pressure. Sports are a great way to meet people as well. We value sports teams because they provide an excellent support network."

The walk starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 27 at the Nanuet Outdoor Education Center. Register via e-mail by Friday, Oct. 26 at mbogdanowich@nanuetsd.org. However, registration is open to walk-ins as well.
It was Andrew (Weiss) who initiated the Walk-A-Thon at our high school," said Marie Bogdanowich, VAASA Advisor at Nanuet HS.

"VAASA has combined The Walk-A-Thon with the education of substances because we feel they go hand in hand," said Weiss. "The purpose of the Walk-A-Thon is to educate everyone on the dangers of substance use and abuse. We know that peer pressure can be hard to avoid and we know that it can be very tempting to give into. The more the community knows about the dangers of peer pressure; we will be better prepared to handle a situation."
