4 To Police HQ After 3-Car Crash On Route 59 In Nanuet: Update

UPDATE 7:45 p.m. — Four people were hospitalized and four people were questioned after the accident that closed eastbound Route 59 Monday afternoon and evening. It was a chain-reaction crash, according to Clarkstown police.

Clarkstown police said two cars were stopped in the right lane of traffic due to a minor fender bender. A third car, travelling in the right lane, didn’t stop for the vehicles involved in the minor accident. That vehicle struck the first two cars.

The four occupants of the third car fled but were caught a short distance from the scene. Those four people were transported to Clarkstown Police Headquarters for investigation.

There were four injuries. A male with a serious leg injury was transported to Westchester Medical Center and the other three less serious injured were transported to Nyack Hospital. There have not been any updates on the medical condition of any of the injured.

The Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Unit is processing the scene. Eastbound Rt. 59 at Old Turnpike Way in Nanuet is closed for the next few hours. Please avoid the area as traffic is very congested at this time.

UPDATE — Clarkstown police ask motorists to avoid the area of Route 59 and Old Nyack Turnpike. At about 3:10 p.m. officers responded to the intersection for a 3 car motor vehicle involving injuries.

Eastbound Rt 59 at Old Nyack Turnpike is closed for accident investigation.

Please avoid the area. Details will follow, police said.
