STAC to Host 19th Annual Rockland Literacy Extravaganza on October 18

Event provides professional development that focuses on Common Core State Standards for teaching reading and writing.

St. Thomas Aquinas College will host the 19th annual Rockland Literacy Extravaganza Professional Conference for teachers, administrators, support personnel, pre-service teachers, and all others interested in education.

This year’s Extravaganza will focus all presentations on Common Core Standards and Beyond: Teaching Close Reading and Academic Writing to Reach and Teach All Students, PreK – 12. Emphasis includes close reading supported by text evidence, academic writing, Tier Two vocabulary, struggling readers and writers, web-based learning, teaching English language learners, diverse learners, and students on the autism spectrum. There will be more than 20 professional workshops by exemplary educators, a publisher’s display, free raffles, free continental breakfast, and Certificates of Attendance for professional requirements.


This event is co-sponsored by St. Thomas Aquinas College, Rockland Teachers’ Center, Rockland Reading Council, and Mid-Hudson Reading Council.

Advance registration: (by October 16): $40/$25 for full-time students
Regular registration: $50/$35 for full-time students.
