Teen Driver Blames Sun Glare After Hitting Pedestrian On Route 59: Cops

The incident took place during rush hour Wednesday in Rockland.

MONSEY, NY — A teenage driver hit a woman crossing Route 59 Wednesday morning, police said. He cited sun glare as the reason he didn't see her. She was in the crosswalk.

At about 7:30 a.m. Ramapo Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Route 59 and Robert Pitt Drive in Monsey.

Police determined that a 2004 Toyota sedan being operated by a 17-year-old from Monsey, struck a 62-year-old Monsey woman.

The driver reported that while he was making a left turn from Robert Pitt Drive onto Route 59 his vision became obstructed due to sun glare. As a result he was unable to see the woman who was crossing Route 59 in the crosswalk and struck her. She suffered an foot injury and was taken to Westchester Medical Center by Hatzolah Ambulance in stable condition.

The driver was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
