This day in History...
On this day in 1945, the town board met in honor of Samuel H. Handley and there was an issue over missing deeds.
Mr. Blauvelt called to order a town board meeting at 8pm August 24, 1945. The meeting started on a sad note with Mr. Blauvelt expressing sincere regret of the town board for the death of Samuel H. Handley, Clarkstown welfare officer. A few words were spoken in his memory Mr. Schmersahl.
The next issue at the meeting was finding a replacement for Handley. William Blanch was appointed as the new welfare officer. The position received a salary of $1700.
Also at this meeting, the Nanuet School District was designated as Nanuet's election polling place.

There was some excitement at this meeting over missing deeds. Former Town Attorney Mr. Wexler came to the meeting to tell the board he could not find the deeds for the New City Park roads. Mr. Blauvelt told the Board and Mr. Wexler that "the matter is very serious and should be cleared up as soon as possible, as recent rains have caused considerable damage in the Park, and the Town Board may possibly have to face the possibility of lawsuits." The issue closed with Mr. Wexler ordered to find the missing deeds by the next board meeting or new ones would need to be duplicated.
Ironically, there was a rain storm two days ago causing Lake Nanuet Park to close.
