Family Best Bets of the Week:

- Buy and Decorate

Where/When: A.C. Moore, Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: Arts and crafts are fun, but can be messy. Take the kids to A.C. Moore to decorate springtime buckets and let someone else clean up!

Price: Buy the bucket and decorate for free.

- Pee Wee Tae Kwan Do

Where/When: Grandmaster B.M. Kim's Tae Kwon Do (in Nanuet Mall) on Saturdays at 10 a.m., for additional times see schedule

Why Go: Get your three through six year olds out and gain their confidence, patience, and skills, while having fun. 

Pricing: Call for pricing, packages vary based on number of classes and age group

- Fashion Illustration and Design Course

Why Go: Girls ages nine to 13 will learn techniques for figure drawing and fashion design in this exciting six-week course at Nyack’s Pink Chandelier Design Studio. Spring courses start this week.

When/Where: Wednesdays, March 30 to May 11. Pink Chandelier Design Studio, Hudson St., Nyack.

- Thirteenth Annual Rockland County Youthfest

Why Go: Keep the kids busy enjoying vendors, giveaways and live entertainment while you shop the 150+ booths of activities that Rockland has to offer its kids. Representatives from sports, camps, recreation and scholastic activities are on hand to answer questions.

When/Where: Sunday, April 3, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rockland Community College Fieldhouse.

- Sending Your Child Off To College: It's Not High School

Where/When: Pearl River High School, Auditorium, Pirate Cove located at 275 E. Central Ave.; Wed., Mar. 30; Program starts at 7 p.m. Q & A to follow program.

Why Go?: Dr. Frank Auriemma, superintendent, and Dr. John Morgano, assistant superintendent, have both lived through children leaving home for school and have taught at the college level. Among the topics they will discuss are: adjusting to college academic rigor; roommate issues; solving problems on their own; calling home; having a car on campus; campus safety; returning home to visit; academic transitions including changing majors and changing schools; and much more.This program is part of the Pearl River School District’s Parent University.

Pricing: Free and open to parents everywhere.

- Pearl River Lanes

Where/When: 100 N. Middletown Road, Pearl River

Why Go?: Because bowling is fun and kids love to knock things over, especially when it involves a rolling ball and making lots of noise. Pearl River Lanes has bumpers available for children ages 5–8. Inquire about their reasonable birthday party packages.

Pricing: From Mon. through Fri., kids and seniors can bowl for $4 per person; Sat. and Sun. is $5 for adults and kids; Sun. from 7 p.m. to close is $15 per hour. Shoe rental is $3 per pair.

- Blessing of the Animals

Where/When: The 1st Annual Blessing of the Animals will be held on the church green of Tappan Reformed Church, 32 Old Tappan Rd., on Sat., Apr. 2 at 12 p.m. Rain date is Sun., Apr. 3 at noon.

Why Go?: From dogs and cats to rabbits, ferrets, hamsters and guinea pigs, all of God's creatures, big and small, are welcome to receive a blessing.

Pricing: Free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter. Call 845.359.1694 to find out items needed.

- Zumbathon Fundraiser

Where/When: Franklin Ave. Elementary School, 48 Franklin Ave., Pearl River;Sat., Apr. 2. Doors open at noon and class starts at 12:30 p.m. for approximately two hours. To reserve your spot, call Anna at 201.403.5579 or email annazumbas@yahoo.com.

Why Go? Proceeds from this class will benefit Tomorrows Children Fund, an organization affliated with Hackensack University Medical Center, which helps children with various cancers and blood disorders.

Pricing: $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Limited space. Opportunity to win 50/50 drawing and raffles.
