Remembering a Day of Peacemaking

Today marks the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II.

It was on this date in 1945 that General Douglas MacArthur accepted the formal surrender of the Japanese government aboard the USS Missouri. The ceremony, which was also attended by representatives from China, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, Australia, Canada, France, The Netherlands and New Zealand, marked the end of hostilities in the Second World War.
