Tonight: “The Story of Woodstock” to benefit Highview Playground

The event is from 7-9 p.m. at the Nanuet Library. Admission is $20 and will be discounted by $5 with the purchase of Pete Fornatale's book.

The Nanuet Rotary Club and the Friends of the Nanuet Public Library are welcoming a widely-respected rock historian and legendary New York disc jockey.

Pete Fornatale is hosting a program tonight at the library with his latest book The Story of Woodstock: Back to the Garden, which celebrates the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. He has also authored several other books and radio and television features.

This event will is from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 8 in the upstairs Nanuet Library Community Room. The program will benefit the charitable works of the Nanuet Rotary Club, including the Highview Playground Project.

"We're very excited about this event and our guest," said Jim Damiani, Rotary president. "We're going to be raising funds for our charities and for the Highview Community Playground project."

The book features a wide assortment of first-hand personal accounts describing the events leading up to and occurring during the weekend when more than half a million people gathered in upstate New York for the now legendary concert festival. For America’s counter-culture, Woodstock became a symbol and a declaration of peace, love and a new way of living.

Fornatale will read and discuss passages from his book and answer audience questions. His accompanying multimedia program will include rare audio clips and video footage of the festival, as well as clips of media broadcasts about the event.

Fornatale may be heard on WFUV’s Mixed Bag radio show every Saturday evening and is also remembered for his work at WNEW and K-Rock. He will have copies of “The Story of Woodstock: Back to the Garden” available for purchase and for signing.

Admission is $20 and will be discounted by $5 with the purchase of his book.
