World Sushi Doubles in Size with Renovation Completed

They took over Franco's Barber Shop after it moved to its new location—34 N. Middletown Rd.

With the economy, so many family-owned and run businesses are struggling. Fortunately, World Sushi in Nanuet is looking on the bright side and are expanding instead of downsizing.

They just doubled in size after seeing an opportunity. Over the holidays last year, they found out that Frano’s Barbar Shop next door was moving to their new location at 34 N. Middletown Rd. Franco asked World Sushi owners, Chris and Nicole Kim, if they would like to take over.

Nicole Kim said that they were hoping to make their place bigger, but didn’t plan to do it just yet. But with a sudden opportunity like this, they grabbed it and worked it out with the landlord to lease the barber shop and break down the separating wall, doubling the size of World Sushi.

Kim said back in November that she and her wanted to keep the cozy tone when they expand. And they did just that with an open space in the additional area as well as a nook with booth seating.

Other upgrades include:

  • new brick façade
  • custom wooden shelves
  • wooden pillars
  • wood paneling for the sushi counter
  • new tile work
  • lighting
  • custom furniture

Everything is more modern than the previous set up and the big reveal was on Valentine’s Day. They’re also working on getting their alcohol license as well in the upcoming months

Chris began World Sushi six or seven years ago and about four years ago, he and Nicole took over when Chris' partner left. They live in New Jersey, but plan to move closer to Nanuet soon.
