More Than Coffee: Nesconset Coffee Bar Gives Kids a Place to Learn

NESCONSET, NY — There's more brewing at the Causes For Kids Coffee Bar than coffee.

Created by Causes For Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Aleta Love, the Nesconset location was designed to bring together community, education and real-world learning in one space.

The idea behind the Causes For Kids Coffee Bar is simple: give families a welcoming community space while creating opportunities for young people to learn skills they can use throughout their lives.

"We wanted to create something that was more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee," Love said. "This is a space where young people can learn, explore their interests and begin developing real-world skills at an early age."

A Coffee Bar With a Mission

The Causes For Kids Coffee Bar helps support the broader mission of Causes For Kids while providing a place for the community to connect.

But what makes the space different is its emphasis on learning through experience.

Causes For Kids focuses on financial education, entrepreneurship, business education, career exploration and job readiness for youth from middle school through college.

Young people can begin learning concepts that are often not introduced until much later in life—from understanding money and customer service to discovering how businesses operate and preparing for the workforce.

"Kids are capable of understanding so much when we give them the opportunity," Love said. "Financial literacy and entrepreneurship don't have to be intimidating subjects. We can make them practical, relatable and fun."

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Causes For Kids Coffee Bar was created to complement traditional education by introducing young people to practical skills and experiences.

Through Causes For Kids programming and community partnerships, the organization works to expose youth to financial education, business, career opportunities and job-readiness skills while encouraging confidence, creativity and independence.

The organization also believes local professionals and business owners can play an important role in that education by sharing their experiences and knowledge with the next generation.

Taking the Mission Into the Community

The Causes For Kids Coffee Bar doesn't stay in one place.

Through its Traveling Coffee Bar, Causes For Kids has participated in community events and farmers markets across Long Island, creating another way for the organization to connect with families and introduce its mission to new communities.

For Love, each cup of coffee is connected to something much bigger.

"When someone supports Causes For Kids, they're supporting our mission to create more educational opportunities for young people," Love said. "We want kids to start learning these skills now—not when they're already adults trying to figure everything out for the first time."

Building Opportunities for the Next Generation

The Causes For Kids Coffee Bar is part of Love's larger vision for Causes For Kids: creating spaces and experiences where young people can learn by doing.

From financial education and entrepreneurship to career exploration and job readiness, the goal is to help young people recognize possibilities for their futures while giving them practical tools to pursue them.
