2 Arrested After Setting Homeless Man On Fire Near Penn Station

According to prosecutors, the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

NEW YORK CITY — Two people have been arrested after they allegedly set a sleeping homeless man on fire outside Penn Station, police said on Thursday.

Damon Johnson, 47, of Brooklyn and Lyla Najjar, 33, of Queens are accused of setting a 37-year-old man who was sleeping on the sidewalk at the corner of West 31st Street and 8th Avenue on Monday.

Johnson has been charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment. Najjar has been charged with assault.

According to prosecutors, the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

The 37-year-old man was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center with second-degree burns and is listed in stable condition.

Police previously said there were looking for three suspects. A motive into the attack has not been determined yet.
