NEW YORK CITY — A nor'easter that blanketed New York City in up to 19 inches of snow could be the first part in a winter storm trilogy this week.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, during a briefing Tuesday on the fallout from Monday's statewide storm, greeted the prediction of more wintry weather with grim humor.

"Another storm — what a surprise," Cuomo said. "Who'd have guessed?"

State officials aren't just preparing for one storm later this week, said Michael Kopy, the state's emergency management director.

They expect two, he said.

"We're expecting some form of winter precipitation on Friday, Friday afternoon that will be downstate and parts of upstate," Kopy said. "And Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, could be another larger snowstorm that we're tracking right now."

New Yorkers should prepare for the potential storms, Kopy said.

The National Weather Service didn't issue any weather alerts or warnings for New York City as of Tuesday. But the forecast provides some broad, if vague, hints about more winter weather.

The forecast, as of Tuesday afternoon, is:

Friday
A chance of rain and snow before noon, then rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Friday night
A 50 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Saturday
A 30 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 38.

Saturday night
A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Sunday
A 40 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 36.

Sunday night
A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Cuomo's office issued a release following his briefing that elaborated slightly on Koby's comment.

"While forecasts are still being refined, the Friday storm is expected to produce winter weather throughout downstate New York, as well as parts of upstate," the release states. "The Sunday storm could be another, larger snow storm which may impact a larger portion of the state. The Governor is continuing to urge New Yorkers to use caution if traveling and be sure to leave room for snowplows as snow continues to fall throughout much of the state."
