Woman Arrested After 2 NYU Students Shot Dead In Puerto Rico: Reports

NEW YORK CITY, NY — A woman has been detained after two New York University business students were shot dead on vacation in Puerto Rico, according to reports.

Marangelys Mclat Claudio was arrested days after Franco Medina Angulo, 29, and Sergio Palomino Ruiz, 28, outside a San Juan club called Emoji early Saturday morning, according to NY1.

Puerto Rican authorities shared a video of a woman shooting from the sidewalk.

The pair were caught in the crossfire of a fight between two groups and were “victims of senseless, tragic gunfire," NYU spokesperson John Beckman said in a statement shared with NBC News.

“The University has been in touch with the remaining group members to offer them support and aid; none of the others were injured,” Beckman said in the statement to NBC News. “NYU has also reached out to the families of the slain students to provide whatever assistance we can and to express the sympathies of the University community.”

Angulo and Ruiz were international students from Peru studying at the Stern School of Business, NY1 reported.

A dean for the Stern School of Business said a scholarship will be established in each of Angulo’s and Ruiz’s names, according to NBC New York.
