5 Hurt By East Village Fire Above 7th St Restaurant, FDNY Says
More than 100 firefighters were working to put out a blaze that erupted in multiple floors of the East 7th Street building, officials said.

EAST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — Five firefighters were hurt after battling a massive blaze above an East Village restaurant on Monday, fire officials said.
The blaze erupted around 3:15 p.m. in a building at 48 East 7th St., where Italian restaurant Villa Della Pace sits on the first floor, and took more than 100 firefighters to put out, an FDNY spokesperson said. The fire was under control by 6:40 p.m., the spokesperson said.
The fire was in multiple floors of the five-story building and in the walls and cockloft, according to the spokesperson and FDNY alerts.

"We have four hose lines stretched at this time," a spokesperson said about an hour after the fire broke out. "There's a lot of water being put on this."
The five firefighters who were hurt by the flames all had non-life threatening injuries, the FDNY said.
