3 New Swimming Pools Open At NYC High Schools: See Where

NEW YORK CITY — Three new swimming pools have opened at high schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

The NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday for the opening of the renovated swimming pool at the James Monroe Campus in the Bronx.

They also recognized the completion of two other pools at the Samuel J. Tilden Educational Campus in Brooklyn and the George Washington Educational Campus in Manhattan.

“Swimming pools are essential school amenities that support physical education, recreation, and critical water safety instruction for students across the five boroughs,” Nina Kubota, President and CEO of the New York City School Construction Authority, said.

“These projects reflect our commitment to ensuring students have access to safe, modern facilities that promote health, wellness, and personal growth."

The newly reopened pool at James Monroe Campus underwent a renovation as part of a $10.1 million project. Work included accessibility upgrades.

At Tilden Educational Campus, the SCA completed a $23.5 million project to deliver a newly upgraded pool facility.

At George Washington Educational Campus, the SCA completed a $21.7 million project that included the construction of two new swimming pools as well as low-voltage systems upgrades.

Combined, these three projects total more than $55 million in investments to improve aquatic facilities for students.
