6 Injured, 1 In Custody After Stabbing At Penn Station: Authorities

NEW YORK — Six were injured Sunday evening after a stabbing at Penn Station, according to officials, who said a person was in custody.

The attack was called in around 7 p.m., according to the New York City Fire Department, which reported five people were taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and one was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center. One of the victims suffered serious injuries, with two others had moderate injuries and three suffered minor injuries, the department reported.

A person was in custody in connection with the stabbing, according to the department, which noted the person was unhoused.

The New York Police Department referred Patch to Amtrak police for more information.

"Earlier this afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to a reported stabbing at New York Penn Station," Amtrak said in an emailed statement. "The suspect has been apprehended and an investigation is underway."

People were instructed to avoid the area and expect traffic delays, road closures, transit disruptions and emergency personnel, according to the city's emergency notification system.
