Adams Endorses Hochul In NY Governor Primary After Long Wait
Mayor Eric Adams' official endorsement of Gov. Kathy Hochul came just two weeks before the June 28 primary.
NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Eric Adams extended Gov. Kathy Hochul a belated, but still welcome, endorsement in New York's Democratic gubernatorial primary.
“Let’s put Kathy Hochul back into the governor’s mansion,” Adams said at a Wednesday morning rally, NY1 first reported. “I strongly endorse her as the governor.”
Adams' official nod alongside Hochul came after weeks of playing, as one publication put it, "hard to get."

It also comes roughly two weeks before the June 28 primary itself. The endorsement was first reported Tuesday by the New York Times.
Adams, for his part, told NY1 before the official announcement that he didn't endorse Hochul earlier because he was "caught up with budgets."

Still, the belated endorsement appears to not be rooted in the personal animosity that characterized the relationship between former mayor Bill de Blasio and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Mayoral spokesperson Fabien Levy gave a sly dig at this past state of affairs he tweeted a photo of Adams and Hochul at the endorsement rally and stated, "when the mayor of New York City and the governor of New York State actually like and respect each other."
