Adams Leads Garcia In Tight NYC Mayoral Race: New Poll
A new poll found Eric Adams holds a lead over Kathryn Garcia and could win the Democratic primary after 12 rounds of ranked-choice voting.

NEW YORK CITY — Eric Adams topped a new poll covering the crowded field of Democratic hoping to be New York City's next mayor.
Eric Adams ultimately prevailed over Kathryn Garcia by 56 percent to 44 percent after 12 rounds of ranked-choice voting in the poll commissioned by WNBC, Telemundo 47 and POLITICO.
The poll released Monday found Maya Wiley, who recently secured the endorsement of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, eclipsed Andrew Yang for the third-place spot.

Adams, who serves as Brooklyn borough president, responded to the poll by saying he still considers himself the underdog, WNBC reported.
Garcia, the city's former sanitation commissioner, released a statement touting the poll. She began the race near the bottom of a crowded pack, but recent polls show her as a front-runner.

"Opponents and friends said I should try to get hired by the next Mayor instead of running to be the next Mayor, "But make no mistake: this woman can and will win.”
Marist College pollsters surveyed 876 likely Democratic primary voters between June 3 and 9.
The span likely doesn't show what impact — or not — a recent Politico story on Adams' residency had on the race. The story raised questions where Adams lives, prompting an only-in-New York news conference in which he invited reporters into a Bed-Stuy apartment he said is his home.
But the poll does show Adams expanding a lead over Yang, who previously led previous polls. Likely Adams and Yang voters are likely to list either candidate as their second-choice on the ranked-choice ballot.
Garcia was the second-choice for Wiley as first choice voters, and vice versa.
Early voting is underway, with the primary just barely a week away on June 22.
