"The greatest arena run of all time is coming to an end," Billy Joel's team wrote Thursday.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — After more than a decade, Billy Joel's residency at Madison Square Garden will come to an end in July 2024, Joel's team and the Garden announced Thursday.
"10 years of Billy Joel!" Team Joel wrote in a tweet. "The greatest arena run of all time is coming to an end. The historic sold-out monthly residency at The World’s Most Famous Arena will conclude in July 2024 with his 150th lifetime performance."
Joel headlined Madison Square Garden for the first time in December 1978, after which he returned dozens of times before beginning his monthly residency in January 2014. His residency was Madison Square Garden's first music franchise.

Every one of Joel's shows at the Garden has sold out.
"I'm kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did. My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but ten years, 150 shows – all right already!" Joel said in the Garden's news release. "I do remember the first time we played Madison Square Garden, it was the pinnacle of my career. I thought, 'My God, I'm headlining Madison Square Garden.' ... It's hard to end, even at 150 lifetime shows. I just want to thank everyone for the wonderful thing that's happened here."
James L. Dolan, the chief executive of MSG Entertainment, added that “Billy Joel’s franchise run has made history — not only for Madison Square Garden, but also for the music industry overall.”
"There's only one thing that's more New York than Billy Joel – and that's a Billy Joel concert at MSG," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said. "For more than 50 years, Billy's music has defined our city and brought us together. On behalf of 8.5 million New Yorkers, congratulations, Billy, on a historic run of sold-out shows at MSG, and thank you for a lifetime of bringing joy to us all."
