NEW YORK CITY — Barely a handful of New York City's unvaccinated police and firefighters got a dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the week since Mayor Bill de Blasio hinted at further city workforce mandates, data shows.
Both NYPD and FDNY — two of the largest and most public-facing New York City agencies — remain in the bottom 10 of city departments' vaccination rates, according to mayor's office data compiled Wednesday.
In a week, NYPD's percentage of workers who received at least one dose ticked up a single point to 69 percent, data shows. FDNY's vaccination rate stayed flat at 59 percent.
And they're not alone — the city's workforce vaccination rate stayed level at 83 percent between this week and last week, according to data. That indicates vaccinations among city workers have reached their voluntary limit.
De Blasio last week signaled strict vaccination mandates — which now only apply to city school staff and health care workers — could be expanded to wider swaths of municipal workers. But this week passed without further rules.
"A variety options are on the table, we will be speaking to it in the coming days," he said Thursday. "Nothing's off the table."
