Suspect Sentenced, Shoved Woman Onto Subway Tracks In Manhattan: DA

The incident happened at the Chambers Street subway station.

NEW YORK CITY — A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after he shoved a 34-year-old woman onto the subway tracks at a Manhattan station back in 2023, prosecutors announced on Monday.

Samuel Junker, of White Plains, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to the August 21, 2023, incident at the Chambers Street subway station.

The 43-year-old is accused of following the victim into the subway station and coming up from behind and shoving her onto the subway tracks, prosecutors said.

The 34-year-old woman suffered a broken leg, bruising and swelling.

Junker was arrested in Lower Manhattan after a police officer recognized him from a wanted flyer. He was wearing the same clothes from the incident.

“Samuel Junker has been held accountable for shoving an innocent woman – a wife and mother – onto the tracks of a Lower Manhattan subway station in a brutal, unprovoked attack,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “We will continue to treat acts of violence committed throughout our subway system with the seriousness they deserve, and I thank our prosecutors for their hard work.”

Junker pleaded guilty to one count of attempted assault in July, prosecutors said.
