He is accused of stabbing a 45-year-old man inside Union Square station on Dec. 10, 2025.

According to police, the victim and Betancourt got into an argument on a Manhattan bound train that spilled onto the platform.

The 45-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the back. The victim was able to fight off Betancourt and take away the knife.

Betancourt fled the scene after the stabbing and took a train to Canarsie, prosecutors said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

New Yorkers were commuting to work on the subway when Christopher Betancourt stabbed a 45-year-old man without provocation at Union Square, after exiting an L train,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “I hope the victim continues to heal from this horrifying transit attack. Individuals who harm New Yorkers in our transit system will be held accountable.”

Betancourt was arrested on February 10.
