In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, WE ARE DUNN: Sexual Violence Survivors & Allies will host a powerful virtual fundraiser on Sunday, April 26 from 3:00–4:30 PM ET, bringing together nationally recognized advocates, survivors, and thought leaders at the intersection of advocacy and legislation.

Hosted by Lauren Weingarten of MTMV Community Voices, this event underscores a critical truth: meaningful policy change requires the voices of those who have lived it. The fundraiser will highlight the urgent need to elect more survivors to Congress—ensuring that those shaping laws around safety, justice, and support bring firsthand experience to the legislative process.

At a time when gender-based violence remains pervasive, this event centers the importance of survivor-led leadership in Congress—where lived experience can directly inform stronger protections, accountability, and systemic reform.

Laura Dunn, award-winning civil rights attorney and candidate for Congress in NY-12, has spent decades fighting for survivors, including helping expand Title IX protections and lobbying for the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Her campaign represents a continuation of that work—this time from inside Congress.

“I am deeply grateful to this extraordinary group of survivors and advocates for coming together at this moment—not just to support my campaign, but to send a clear message about the leadership our country needs,” said Dunn. “As someone who has spent decades fighting to protect women and girls from gender-based violence, I will bring that same urgency and tenacity to Congress. The work I’ve done to help expand Title IX protections and pass the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act was never theoretical—it was personal. Now more than ever, we need more women and more survivors in office if we want lasting change.”

This virtual fundraiser is not just an event—it is a call to action: to elevate survivor voices, transform advocacy into policy, and elect leaders who will fight relentlessly for justice.
