Special Election For NYC Council Seat Set For Tuesday: What To Know

Four candidates are vying for the city council seat that was vacated by Erik Bottcher.

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers in City Council District 3 will pick its next council member as they head to the polls on Tuesday.

Four candidates are vying for the city council seat that was vacated by Erik Bottcher who was elected to the state senate in February.

City council district 3 encompasses Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, Hudson Yards, the West Village, the Garment District, the Meatpacking district and parts of Times Square.

Here are all the candidates on the ballot:

Carl Wilson (Democrat): previously served as Bottcher's chief of staff and is running as an openly gay candidate. He has received endorsements from Bottcher and City Council Speaker Julie Menin.

Layla Law-Gisiko (Democrat): The candidate has been a Chelsea district leader who is running on a land use and housing platform.

She has worked to protect tenants at the Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea NYCHA complexes which has been facing possible redevelopment.

Leslie Boghosian Murphy (Democrat): currently serves as the chair for Community Board 4. She has long been involved in district issues and has dedicated her time to bettering her neighborhood, according to her campaign website.

Lindsey Boylan (Democrat): was one of the first women to accused Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment when he was governor. Cuomo later resigned.

Boylan previously ran for Congress and Manhattan borough president.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has endorsed Boylan in the special election.

"The decision to endorse Lindsey is one that come more from seeing her bravery, her courage, standing up over the years," he said in a statement.
