NEW YORK CITY — Resorts World launched the first full-scale casino in New York City on Tuesday.
The casino, now open to the public, feature more than 240 table games including blackjack, craps, baccarat and roulette.
On hand to celebrate the launch of the new casino was Queens native and rapper Nas who took part in the official ribbon cutting and ceremonial throw of the first dice.
"Resorts World now employees over 2,200 team members and have already doubled our workforce and expect thousands more team members as the integrated resort is developed over the next three years,"Robert DeSalvio, president of Genting Americas East said in a statement.
The opening is part of a $5.5 billion expansion at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens. Resort World has run a slots-only casino since 2011.
Once the expansion is complete, 800 table games, 6,000 slots, a 7,000-seat entertainment venue and a new hotel will be added to the casino.
Resorts World is one of three downstate casino projects that were approved late last year. A Bally's casino in the Bronx and a casino near Citi Field backed by Mets owner Steve Cohen is expected to open in 2030.
