2 Planes Come Within 500 Feet Of Each Other In Close Call At JFK

NEW YORK CITY — Two airplanes came within 500 feet of colliding with each other at JFK Airport earlier this week, according to a report.

According to the FAA and ABC7, Endeavor Air Flight 5289 was on its final approach to Runway 22L at the airport on Monday when a Cirrus SR22 plane crossed over to land on Runway 22R.

An air traffic controller alerted the pilot of the Endeavor plane that the Cirrus plane was about 500 feet above them.

According to FlightRadar24, the plane was at an altitude of 2,100 feet while the smaller aircraft was at 2,575 feet.

The incident on Monday is the second close call at the airport in two weeks. Two airplanes previously came within 400 feet of colliding with each other.

Last weekend, near Newark Airport, a United Airlines plane struck a truck on the New Jersey Turnpike as it attempted to land at the airport.

No injuries were reported from the incident on Monday.
