NYC Measles Case Confirmed In Manhattan, Marks 5th Case In 2026

NEW YORK CITY — The city's health department has confirmed a reported measles case in Manhattan.

Health officials have disclosed the infected person visited Norma's Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen last month.

The restaurant has since in a social media post that the individual was there on April 26 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

The most recent case in the city brings the tally up to five total case so far in 2026. Last year, there were 20 measles cases citywide.

The person contracted the disease abroad and was not vaccinated, according to health officials.

In additon, the infected person visited two restaurants, a performance venue and multiple health care facilities in Manhattan, Gothamist reported.

The risk to the public is low due to high vaccination coverage among New Yorkers, per the city's health department.

"This is a reminder of the importance of vaccination, which is the best protection against measles," the department said in a statement.

Measles is a highly contagious that can be spread through sneezes and coughs. The virus can remain in the air up to two hours.

The health department has said all adults should be vaccinated for measles and children should receive their first dose of the vaccine at 12 months and their second dose between ages 4.
