NEW YORK CITY — A runway at LaGuardia Airport remains closed ahead one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
Runway 4/22 remains closed after a sinkhole was found on Wednesday during a morning inspection of the airfield.
The Port Authority has said that the runway is closed, so that crews can conduct additional inspections.
The runway is now expected to be reopened on Saturday at 6 a.m., according to the agency.
The situation has caused lingering delays and disruptions at the airport.
"Travelers should check with their airline for flight status before arriving at the airport," The Port Authority said.
As of 10 a.m. delays at the airport were up to an hour and 35 minutes for inbound flights.
While departures are delayed between 30 and 45 minutes.
