5 Injured After Train Fire At Penn Station, Some Rail Service Still Affected

NEW YORK CITY — A two-alarm fire at Penn Station injured five people and disrupted some train service Friday morning.

The fire was reported around 1:32 a.m. in a train car on track 11. Around 140 FDNY personnel responded to the scene.

The blaze was brought under control around 4 a.m.

Among the five injured, two people suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Amtrak, NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road service were disrupted ahead of the Friday morning rush.

As of 10 a.m., LIRR resumed full service out of Penn Station.

All Amtrak rail service between New York and New Jersey, and to destinations farther south are temporarily suspended. Service is not expected to be fully restored until Friday afternoon.

NJ Transit rail service is suspended between Penn Station New York and Newark Penn Station, with cancellations and delays expected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
