NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Zohran Mamdani has given New York City kids the green light to stay up late to watch the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals beginning on Wednesday.

Mamdani on Monday signed an executive order that repeals bedtime. He was joined by a group of students at City Hall who all signed the executive order with their handprints.

"Today, I signed an Executive Order temporarily repealing bedtimes in the City of New York so that kids of all ages can watch our team in the NBA Finals," he wrote in a social media post

"As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them. Go Knicks."

The 2026 NBA Finals is a rematch of the 1999 Finals between San Antonio and New York. The Knicks are now four wins away from ending the franchise's 53-year championship drought.

This will be the Knicks’ sixth NBA Finals appearance in franchise history.
