NEW YORK, NY— The New York Knicks’ 2026 postseason has generated an estimated $202 million in economic activity from home games played so far, with projections showing the figure could rise significantly during the NBA Finals, officials said.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the New York City Economic Development Corporation released the estimate Tuesday, as the Knicks returned to the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years.
“New Yorkers have been waiting 27 years for this moment,” Mamdani said. “ When the Knicks win, New York comes alive."
Officials said the postseason total could reach $465 million in economic activity if all potential home games in the Finals are played.
The city estimated each additional home playoff game could generate about $90 million in economic activity, driven by spending on tickets, concessions, merchandise, transportation and lodging.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation noted the current postseason total is lower than last year’s run because the Knicks played fewer home games this season, despite advancing further in the playoffs.
The team swept the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in earlier rounds, reducing the number of home games compared with prior postseason runs.
NYCEDC reported its analysis included direct spending on tickets, concessions, merchandise, transportation and hotel stays, as well as indirect and induced spending tied to arena operations and employee income.
The agency said the estimate was based on average current prices for NBA Finals games.
