Queens Centers for Progress (QCP), a cornerstone of support for individuals with developmental disabilities in Queens, celebrated its 76th Anniversary Gala on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the iconic Terrace on the Park. The Broadway-themed event honored the organization’s remarkable journey from its founding in 1950 to its position today as a leader in advocacy, empowerment, and community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced that his office will give $500,000 to QCP for its mission to support individuals with developmental disabilities in the borough. QCP also has a commitment of $300,000 from New York City Council Members James F. Gennaro and Linda Lee. In addition, the event raised $90,000 thanks to the generous support of the sponsors and the evening’s attendees.
Since its inception, QCP has evolved from a small group of dedicated parents and advocates into a comprehensive provider of services that reach more than 1,200 individuals annually. Over three-quarters of a century, QCP has expanded its programs to include early childhood education, vocational training, residential services, and innovative therapies, all designed to help individuals with developmental disabilities achieve greater independence and quality of life.
Throughout its history, QCP has been at the forefront of change-pioneering inclusive education, advocating for disability rights, and building partnerships that have transformed lives across Queens. Its impact is seen in the thousands of children and adults who have found opportunities, community, and hope through its programs.
This year’s gala honored two distinguished leaders whose professional excellence and community engagement reflect QCP’s mission:
Adding to the evening’s Broadway theme, the gala featured a special performance by the QCP Players, the organization’s theater program. The group received standing ovations from the audience as it presented a musical number from their upcoming production of Annie Kids, showcasing the talents and creativity of individuals served by QCP. Annie Kids will be performed for the general public on June 4 and 5. Attendance is free, but RSVP is recommended. To reserve a ticket, visit https://tinyurl.com/QCPAnnie26
“Our Summer Gala is always a highlight of the year, bringing together our community to celebrate the achievements of those who support our mission. We are grateful for the generous support from Borough President Richards and the Council Members James F. Gennaro and Linda Lee. We are proud to have honored Runi Mehta and Jason Miller for their leadership and commitment, and we were especially excited to spotlight the incredible talents of our QCP Players,” says QCP Executive Director Terri Ross.
The celebration brought together community leaders, supporters, and advocates to honor individuals making a significant impact in Queens and beyond. The evening featured dinner, awards presentations, proclamations, and a celebration of QCP’s legacy of service.
