NEW YORK CITY — An iconic train station in New York City was recently ranked the best station in the country and placed in the top 10 globally, according to a new list.
UK-based travel insurance experts, AllClear, ranked the top 20 train stations in the world.
AllClear experts looked to uncover which of the world’s train stations offer the most premium experiences of all.
They looked at everything from historic architecture to fine dining, availability of premium waiting lounges and retail options.
While train stations in Europe and Asia took up a number of spots in the final list, Grand Central Station took the No. 7 spot — and was the only train station in the U.S. to be honored.
"Grand Central Terminal is one of the world’s most popular landmarks, featuring in famous movies including Men in Black II and popular television series like, Gossip Girl," AllClear experts wrote.
"Despite being the only station in our study that doesn’t have at least one premium or first-class waiting lounge, the station offers travelers access to a wide range of high-quality dining options, including the iconic Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant serving delicious seafood, alongside a strong selection of nearby four- and five-star hotels."
Grand Central Station has undergone a number of improvements within the last two years including the opening of Grand Central Madison for the Long Island Rail Road.
