NEW YORK CITY — The city has added Bryant Park as an official watch party location for Game 3 of the NBA Finals after a planned event outside Madison Square Garden was cancelled due to President Trump's attendance for Monday's game.
The NYPD has also said that the watch party outside the Garden was cancelled due to a number of security concerns.
The decision was made in coordination with the Secret Service. Knicks fans will have to get to the arena two hours early and get past TSA-style security to attend the game.
Local law enforcement and the Secret Service have already put up a safety perimeter around the Garden.
Watch parties are expected to resume outside Madison Square Garden for Game 4 on Wednesday.
The Bryant Park watch party will host up to 5,000 people. Registration has now closed after it reached capacity.
The city will also be hosting NBA Finals watch parties at Central Park and Brooklyn Bowl.
“These watch parties have become a celebration of New York City itself,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said. “From every borough and every neighborhood, this city has come together to cheer on the Knicks and share in a moment that belongs to all of us."
The Knicks are up to two games to none against the San Antonio Spurs and are hoping to compare a commanding three game lead on Monday.
This is the team's first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1999. The franchise is hoping to win its first championship since 1973.
