See What Penn Station Will Look Like After $8B Renovation

NEW YORK CITY — Newly released renderings show what Penn Station could look like after a planned $8 billion renovation set to begin in 2027.

Renderings released by Amtrak and Penn Transformation Partners shows the station's exterior featuring Roman-style columns along a grand entryway for commuters.

Inside the station, there will be a sunlight drenched main concourse with high ceilings and additional details like bronze station clocks and a bas-relief of the New York City skyline.

"The most ambitious civic project New York has seen in a generation. A transformative experience for everyone who enters Penn Station. And this time, it's real," developers wrote on the project website.

The new Penn Station design is inspired by the original building from 1910 that was spearheaded by McKim, Mead & White

The new station looks to better position the main stairs, elevators, and escalators to promote faster, easier movement, according to developers.

The project website predicts the renovation to be completed sometime in 2034.

The U.S. Department of Transportation in May chose Penn Transformation Partners to lead the renovation project.

The group includes real estate company Vornado and construction companies Halmar and Skanska.

The federal government took control of the project from the MTA last year with Amtrak now in charge.

Amtrak, backed by USDOT, will handle the remainder of the renovation project. Federal officials have said that the move will save taxpayers $120 million.
