NEW YORK, NY— More than 66,000 New Yorkers cast ballots during the first weekend of early voting in the 2025 primary election, signaling strong engagement in a slate of closely watched congressional contests across New York City and the state.
The New York City Board of Elections reported 66,361 cumulative early voting check-ins through the close of polls Sunday. Officials said 30,553 voters cast ballots on Saturday alone, nearly double the turnout recorded on the opening day of early voting during the 2021 primary.
Brooklyn led all five boroughs with 23,637 early voters through two days. Manhattan followed with 21,565 voters, Queens recorded 13,823, the Bronx logged 5,170 and Staten Island reported 2,166.
Early voting continues through June 22 before voters return to the polls for Primary Day on June 24.
New York operates as a closed primary system. Registered Democrats and Republicans may vote only in their party's primary, while unaffiliated voters cannot participate.
Mamdani has sought to extend his political influence beyond City Hall by campaigning for several progressive candidates. In a basketball-themed advertisement that aired during the NBA Finals, he appeared alongside Lander, Valdez and Avila Chevalier.
"Get out and vote," Mamdani said in the ad. "This is the team. This is our year."
Early voting hours vary through June 22. Polling sites will remain open daily, though voters should verify their designated early voting location because it may differ from their Election Day polling place.
On Primary Day, polls will open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
