PHOTOS: Knicks Go Down 'Canyon of Heroes' In Historic Championship Parade

NEW YORK CITY — Knicks fans have been waiting for this moment for 53 years — and they came out in force on Thursday as they cheered and celebrated the team that finally brought the city that elusive title.

Scores of fans began filling the streets in Lower Manhattan around 6 a.m., more than four hours before the parade start time, just to soak in the team's first championship since 1973.

Around 2 million people descended into Lower Manhattan to see Thursday's parade — which would be the largest ticker tape parade in city history, according to the NYPD.

The Knicks' championship ticker-tape parade began near Battery Park, traveled north on Broadway through the famed "Canyon of Heroes" and ended at City Hall.
