Plane Crashes In East River: Authorities

NEW YORK — A small plane landed Sunday in the East River, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around noon between Manhattan and Brooklyn, authorities said.

The pilot of a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing in the river, causing a wing strut to snap, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane had departed from East Hampton, The New York Times reported. Police described it as a 30-foot vessel and said it had become disabled due to mechanical failure.

Eight people were removed from the plane, according to the fire department, which added that two people suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention.

The upright aircraft was towed to a dock, authorities said.
