NEW YORK CITY — Outshine Fruit Bars have been voluntarily recalled by their parent company after the FDA said it found shards of glass in its products.
Outshine's owners, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, say that the contamination is restricted to only select Outshine bar flavors: strawberry, watermelon, grape, tangerine, and black cherry.
The recall applies to the 6-packs of 2.5 ounce fruit bars, as well as the 24 count of 2.5 ounce bars.
Outshine bars have been distributed to supermarkets, grocers, and retailers around New York City and nationwide.
"Dreyer's is taking this action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product," the FDA said in a statement.
"No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider immediately. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund," the FDA said.
No other Outshine products are impacted, the FDA said.
It is not yet clear how the glass wound up inside the bars. An investigation is underway.
