NYC Adds Emergency Snow Shoveler Registration Events: What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — New York City has added four Emergency Snow Shoveler registration events across the five boroughs, including one this weekend.

The program recruits temporary workers to clear snow and ice from public areas such as bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and step streets after heavy snowfalls.

The upcoming events are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:

• Sept. 26: Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics, 260 Pleasant Ave., Manhattan
• Oct. 3: PS 289 George V. Brower, 900 St. Marks Ave., Brooklyn
• Oct. 10: PS 040 Samuel Huntington, 109-20 Union Hall St., Queens
• Oct. 17: Susan E. Wagner High School, 1200 Manor Road, Staten Island

Those who complete registration before Nov. 30 will be eligible for a paid four-hour orientation in December and fast-tracked processing to receive a paycheck within two weeks of working.

Emergency Snow Shovelers start at $30 per hour, increasing to $45 per hour after 40 hours in a week.

Applicants must be at least 18, legally authorized to work in the United States and able to perform heavy physical labor in winter conditions.
