NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura announced that the city's NYC Open Play pilot, which provides late-night pickup soccer at fields across all five boroughs, will continue through September 2027.
The program launched during the 2026 FIFA World Cup with support from the New York New Jersey Host Committee, keeping one soccer field in each borough open for late-night play throughout the summer. More than 4,500 New Yorkers participated during the month-long pilot.
Following the strong turnout, Open Play will return from October through November 2026 and again from April through September 2027, with extended hours from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The program will provide late-night soccer opportunities through the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
New Yorkers ages 18 years and up will be able to play pickup soccer free of charge from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at five participating fields across the five boroughs:
NYC Parks will continue managing field permits and lighting, while NYC Footy will facilitate onsite play. NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol officers will maintain a dedicated presence at each location.
New Yorkers can sign up for late-night field access through NYC Open Play.
