Beloved Dance Music Idol Flies Again

Kristine W, an Iconic 90's and early millennium hitmaker, returns to the airwaves with poignant song that reflects on a terrible loss

Kristine W began recording pop, R&B and dance tracks in the nineties, including 1994's "Feel What You Want," her first single to reach #1 on the Billboard charts. Since then, Kristine W has maintained a steady flow of chart toppers. "Stars," from her 2019 album, Issues Episode 1: Love and Lies, became her 17th Billboard #1, tying Kristine W with Mariah Carey for the sixth-most Billboard No. 1s since the chart's inception.

Today, the prolific hitmaker returns to the airwaves with her first single in two years. "Can’t Look Back," the first release from her still un-named upcoming album, is a lush, soulful club groove, made even more powerful with its message of rising up and appreciating the day. Kristine W says the song was inspired by the passing of her mother.

"Though she faced unbearable loss during her lifetime, my mother was a perpetual optimist," the artist explains. "She never wallowed in pain from the past. She chose to forge ahead, holding tightly to hope, faithful in her belief that tomorrow would be a brighter day."

Kristine admits she had a difficult time working through the loss of her mother, but found solace through songwriting. "I found writing my feelings down to be cathartic," she reflects, adding that she believes her mother had a hand in the song's creation. "Mom’s spirit is so much a part of the lyrics of this single. I really feel like she was holding the pen."

Her hope is that by sharing the song now with the world, it helps those experiencing similar loss to move forward too.

"At shows, I have had the opportunity to meet others in mourning. We hug and cry together over our lost ones. "

"Songs like 'Can't Look Back' are good medicine," she continues. "Many of us have been through traumatic challenges these past few years and it's important that we do not let the pain defeat or define us. It's natural and healthy to look back and reflect every once-in-a-while but we can’t live in the past. We need to keep pressing on."
