Armed NYC Troll Who Threatened To Exterminate Dems Sentenced, Feds Say
Brian Maiorana advocated violence online while stockpiling weapons in his Staten Island home, federal prosecutors said.
NEW YORK CITY — A Staten Island troll faces up to three years in prison after he threatened to "exterminate" Democrats while stockpiling weapons that included a crossbow, ghost gun and Taser, prosecutors announced.
Brian Maiorana, 55, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to firearm possession as a convicted felon, a status he received — along with a sex offender designation — for a "sexual relationship" with a 13-year-old girl, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for New York's Eastern District.
The three years represents a longer than usual punishment for possession — guidelines call for a 12-18 month sentence — which was requested by prosecutors to deter trolls from enacting the violence they threaten online, authorities said.

“The carnage needs to come in the form of extermination of anyone that claims to be democrat [sic]…as well as their family members,” Mairona wrote upon the election of President Joe Biden, according to prosecutors.
“The Turner Diaries must come to life," Mairona added, referencing a 1978 novel about the extermination of American Jews, non-whites, liberals and politicians. "We blow up the FBI building for real.”

The Staten Island man's sentencing occurred just days after a shooter in Buffalo killed 10 people in an apparent racist attack targeting Black people.
The case began in September 2020 as the presidential election entered its final weeks and Maiorana started posting threats to kill protesters, politicians, law enforcement officers and more, according to court documents.
The following month, Maiorana posted that "pipe bombs need to be thrown into these mobs of potential non violent violent protesters," according to documents.
And two days after the election, Maiorana posted his comment about carnage and extermination, prosecutors said.
“All right thinking people need to hit the streets while these scumbags are celebrating and start blowing them away,” Maiorana posted on Nov. 8 — an apparent reference to New Yorkers' celebration of then-President Donald Trump's defeat, according to court documents.
"All the alphabet agencies assassination will become the new normal now…that the electoral process is finished.”
Maiorana — who adopted the username "Proud Patriot Sailor" — drew the eye of federal investigators for his online comments about "manufacturing implements of war," according to documents.
Investigators then tracked down financial records that showed Maiorana purchased parts for a handgun, despite a past felony conviction that barred him from possessing firearms, court documents state.
Maiorana's felony conviction was a sex crime in Pennsylvania for a "sexual relationship" with a 13-year-old that began when he was 38, court documents show.
FBI agents and Joint Terrorism Task Force members searched Maiorana's Staten Island home on Nov. 10 and found a .45-caliber Glock pistol, "ghost gun" parts for a .22-caliber firearm, a Taser, crossbow, an expandable baton, and a balaclava emblazoned with a skull and a copy of the "Anti-Government Movement Guidebook, authorities said.
Maiorana was arrested and pleaded guilty to the weapons charge in April 2021, but federal prosecutors argued his lack of remorse warranted a three-year sentence above that initially for by sentencing guidelines.
"The defendant communicated in emails that he believes that there will be a civil war in the United States that will cause 100 million deaths," a sentencing memorandum states.
"And that he wants to be out of jail before the 'war' commences, presumably so that he can participate in it."
U.S. District Court Judge Frederic Block sentenced Maiorana to the requested three years.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said in a statement that his office would continue to pursue "social media trolls" whose online threats turn into real-world steps.
“Our nation is facing a fatal epidemic of racism and hatred, and this Office and our law enforcement partners are working tirelessly to remove the illegal guns that turn these social media trolls into dangerous criminals," Peace said.
"Individuals, like the defendant, who espouse violent views on social media concerning the 'extermination' and 'assassination' with 'pipebombs' and 'firearms' of those who don't share their hateful, bigoted views, and who illegally possess guns and ammunition will be brought to justice."
