NYPD Officer Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound In The Bronx, Police Say

An off-duty officer died from a bullet wound Thursday afternoon in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

BRONX, NY — An off-duty NYPD sergeant died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Bronx Thursday afternoon, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch. Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the shooting — an apartment building on Sedgwick Avenue in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx — around 2 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The off-duty officer was pronounced dead at the scene, NYPD officials told Patch.

Police did not immediately provide details on the officer's identity or any other circumstances surrounding his death.
