NEW YORK CITY, NY — One person was killed and several others were injured when a parking garage collapsed near City Hall on Tuesday, according to officials.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed a worker died when a three-story parking garage on Ann Street collapsed in Lower Manhattan about 4:15 p.m., city officials said.

John Esposito with the FDNY said five other workers were injured. Four were taken to hospitals, where they were in stable condition, Esposito said at a Tuesday news conference. One refused medical attention, he added.

Video shared on social media shows a row of parked cars resting on buckling concrete. Several cars were crushed in the collapse, authorities said, and firefighters were pulled from the scene due to concerns about the building's structural stability.

“It felt like an earthquake,” Liam Gaeta, a student at nearby Pace University, told The Associated Press. He said he heard “a large noise and a big rumbling, and then we all got evacuated.”

Other Pace students described hearing screams and seeing cars falling into the building.

Fire officials used a drone and robotic dog to assist in search efforts, Esposito said.

"We believe we have the workers....all accounted for," he added.

NYPD Police Chief Keechant Sewell said the collapse does not appear suspicious.

New Yorkers are warned to avoid the area.

The MTA slowed a slew of trains — 2, 3, A, C, J and Z — that run through the nearby Fulton Street station, officials said. Straphangers should expect delays on the J and Z.
