Alderfer Auction presents a single-owner auction from the estate of Dr. Sandra Harmon-Weiss and Dr. Richard Weiss reflects a lifetime devoted to scholarship, service, and collecting. Their shared passion for American history and the arts is evident in a collection that includes 18th- and 19th-century antiques, fine silver, and personal and historical objects.
Auction is open for pre-bidding at alderferauction.com until Thursday, May 29th at 10AM, at which time pre-bidding will cease and the auction will go live at the auction center (no live audience, just our auctioneer and auction staff).
Among the most notable items in the collection is a gold brooch made by Paul Revere, bearing Revere’s “PR” hallmark twice on the reverse—a rare and meaningful connection to the founding era of the United States and to Revere’s work beyond his famed midnight ride. The brooch joins other historically rich items in the sale, such as Continental currency from the Revolutionary era, similar to examples that Revere helped engrave, and engraved bookplates, a lesser-known but important facet of Revere’s output.

Other items include Revolutionary-era currency, engraved bookplates, Victorian “lover’s eye” miniatures, mourning jewelry and textiles, a flame-stitch purse from 1774, and 17th-century Dutch brass tobacco boxes. Fine jewelry by Cartier and Boucheron adds European elegance. The auction also features Chinese export porcelain and samplers, along with a large selection of coin silver. Period furniture to include a Chester County Octorara chest and fine Persian Rugs are also significant portions of this collection. Other highlights include mourning textiles and samplers, some bearing 19th-century expressions of grief and remembrance; Westtown (Weston) School sampler, Together, these pieces embody the Weiss’ commitment to preservation and connoisseurship.
