EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — February 7, 2026 — The cast of the powerful new stage production Courageous: The Musical will appear at DJ Envy’s Black History Month Celebration: The Dream Family Reunion on Saturday, February 7, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at American Dream in East Rutherford, NJ.

Hosted by DJ Envy, nationally syndicated radio personality and co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, the Dream Family Reunion is a free, family-friendly celebration honoring Black history, culture, and community.

Courageous: The Musical is an original urban stage production described as The Wire meets West Side Story, exploring how violence, love, culture, and life-altering choices collide in modern America. Created by acclaimed educators and cultural producers Frank Bold and Damen Heyward, the musical draws from lived experience to reveal how individual decisions ripple through families, schools, and entire communities.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the show’s lead actors Walter Russell III—the youngest Black male Grammy Award winner in history and Broadway standout (MJ the Musical, The Lion King, Kinky Boots)—and Layla Capers, a Bronx-born Broadway performer celebrated for her roles in School of Rock and The Lion King.

The event will also feature a live performance preview from Courageous: The Musical on The Dream Stage – Court A, Level 1 at 4:00 PM, offering audiences a first look ahead of the production’s full theatrical opening in May 2026.

Legendary public relations executive Steve Manning, whose iconic client list includes Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and LL Cool J, stated:

Courageous is the kind of project that matters—truthful, culturally grounded, and fearless in confronting real issues. This is storytelling with purpose, and that’s what moves culture forward.”

Ronald Blount, Jr., Executive Director of the Bronx County Medical Society and a seasoned healthcare executive with over 30 years advancing health equity across New York City, added:

Courageous speaks to the conditions that shape lives long before anyone enters a hospital—violence, trauma, access, and opportunity. By using culture and storytelling, this production sparks dialogue, addresses root causes, and promotes healthier futures for our communities.”

Guests are also invited to visit the Courageous table to meet the creative team and enter to win two tickets to the Black-Tie Courageous: The Musical Benefit Gala, taking place Friday, March 6, 2026, at Marina Del Rey in the Bronx.
